Pelham House Wedding flowers

A bright vibrant autumn wedding at Pelham House in Lewes - Anna & Tom

Anna & Tom’s October wedding was a stylish affair and a total explosion of bright autumn colour. Pelham House is a luxurious wedding venue hidden away on a quiet back street in the vibrant town of Lewes in East Sussex. It has been beautifully renovated with a subtle 1920s feel, complete with a stunning bridal suite and a gold and marble cocktail bar — the perfect setting for a modern, design-led wedding like this one.

Colourful, modern autumn wedding flowers

The flowers were modern and slightly quirky in style, with bright autumnal blooms taking centre stage. Unexpected pops of colour came from the yellow balls of craspedia, alongside unusual textures from seasonal seedpods, berries and grasses.

The bride was a huge fan of dahlias, but disaster struck when the season ended abruptly just days before the wedding, with an early frost wiping out much of the crop. Luckily, I have a number of incredible suppliers across Sussex and was able to source the final surviving dahlias of the season from three different growers.

A special mention goes to Little Pink Garden in Cuckfield, who wrapped the roots of her dahlias overnight in woollen fleece to try and protect them from the cold for this wedding, and it worked. I also sourced from Pitfield Barn, my local flower farm, Withypitts (a specialist dahlia grower), as well as my trusted Dutch wholesalers.

In the end, it all came together beautifully, and the effort to source Sussex-grown dahlias was absolutely worth it. The flowers perfectly matched the couple’s non-traditional brief — fun, bright, modern and unique, with a luxurious feel.

Ceremony and reception styling

I created gold bowl arrangements overflowing with flowers to line the ceremony aisle, which were later repurposed as guest table arrangements.

For the registrar table, I designed an ombré-style arrangement using a series of modern cement planters, adding a slightly unexpected, contemporary touch. This arrangement later moved to sit beneath the seating plan to provide extra decoration and colour for the reception.

The Goring Room was full of colour and energy, with the flowers working beautifully alongside the playful streamer installations and disco balls from Streamadelica.

Bridal bouquet

The bridal bouquet was a celebration of autumn colour and texture — filled with vibrant roses, dahlias and striking pops of hot pink nerines and bright yellow craspedia.

It was designed in a modern, slightly asymmetrical style with minimal foliage, finished with subtle details from crocosmia seedheads to seasonal grasses for added texture.

The buttonholes followed a garden-gathered style — small, natural bunches designed to complement the bouquet, each centred around a dahlia bud with foliage and autumn berries.

Kind words from Anna & Tom

The flowers were INCREDIBLE!! So many comments about how beautiful and unusual they were. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
