Seven beautiful Sussex barn wedding venues

If you’re looking for a rustic barn wedding venue in Sussex, I have great news! You will be spoilt for choice as there are so many wonderful barns to consider, from purpose built stylish venues to converted old barns and farms. I love a rustic style barn wedding and had my wedding at Sussex barn almost 15 years ago. The choice has grown more since then and here are some of my favourites, which I’ve chosen for their beautiful rural settings, welcoming atmosphere and the flexibility they offer to couples to create a truly unique personal wedding day.

1. Pangdean Barn near Brighton

Pangdean Barn is a relaxed yet elegant venue situated in the South Downs National Park – and only five minutes from my studio! The historic farm offers exclusive use of the venue for your day and a choice of beautiful spots to get married in: the old barn, the smaller intimate stables or under the apple trees in the mulberry lodge. I love being at Pangdean and it has such a welcoming feel, from the beautiful gardens to the helpful staff.

2. Hawthbush Farm near Heathfield

Weddings at Hawthbush Farm are relaxed and magical affairs. They only take on one per weekend and you have exclusive use from Friday to Sunday to really make it your own – perfect for creative couples. The woodland ceremony area is very special and has such a peaceful feel, in fact I have never been more relaxed and calm at a wedding set-up than those at Hawthbush listening to the birds while I work! The rustic wonky barn is another option for your ceremony and there is accommodation available on site as well.

3. Fitzleroi Barn near Pulborough

Every wedding at Fitzerloi is unique - you can bring your own style to celebrate your wedding, your way, with exclusive use Friday to Saturday. A family-run wedding venue, Fitzerloi farm is located in a peaceful spot near the village of Fittleworth and surrounded by rolling Sussex countryside. The 16th century barn is beautiful, and the venue offers flexible choices on decoration and various ceremony options.

5. Montague Farm near Pevensey

Montague Farm is a special place, an 18th century complex of barns, courtyards and homes with an amazing view over the hills and out to sea. Montague Farm boasts three stylishly restored barns – the Big Barn, the Watering Shed and the Pig’s Palace (who doesn’t want to get married in a pig’s palace?!) and your guests can glamp in one of the beautiful furnished bell tents. I loved being at Montague Farm and cannot wait to return!

Cissbury Barns is a hidden gem, located on the Cissbury Estate and surrounded by woods and horses, with sea views and open vistas. You can get married in the East Barn or opt for an outdoor ceremony.
