Pelham House Wedding flowers

A bright vibrant autumn wedding at Pelham House in Lewes - Anna & Tom

Anna & Tom’s October wedding was a stylish affair and a total explosion of bright autumn colours! Pelham House is a luxurious wedding venue hidden away on a quiet back street in the vibrant town of Lewes in East Sussex. It’s been stylishly renovated in a 1920s feel with a beautiful bridal suite and a gold and marble cocktail bar and is the perfect venue for a modern luxe wedding like this one.

The flowers were modern and quirky in style with bright autumnal blooms taking centre stage with unexpected pops of extra colour from the yellow balls of craspedia and unusual textures courtesy of seasonal seedpods, berries and grasses incorporated. The bride was a huge fan of dahlias but disaster hit when the season ended abruptly a few days before the wedding with an early frost killing off the majority of the crop. Luckily I have a number of amazing suppliers to call upon in Sussex and was able to purchase the final surviving dahlias of 2023 from 3 different suppliers! A special mention to one small grower Little Pink Garden in Cuckfield, who wrapped the roots of her dahlias overnight in woolen fleece to protect from the cold - an extra aspect of care that worked as all the plants survived from this grower! I also used Pitfield Barn, my local flower farm and Withypitts, a dahlia specialist as well as my amazing Dutch wholesalers. I was so thrilled with the results in the end and the quest for Sussex grown local dahlias was worth it, the flowers matched the couple’s non-traditional brief - fun, bright, modern, unique with a luxurious feel.

I created gold bowl arrangements bursting with flowers to line the ceremony aisles (and later moved to become guest table arrangments) as well as an ombre registrar table arrangement made from several modern style cement planters. The Goring Room was bursting with colour and joy and the flowers also worked so well for the wedding meal complimenting the fun streamer installations and disco balls hired from Streamadelica.

The bridal bouquet was a celebration autumn colour and flowers, full of vibrant roses, glorious dahlias and pops of colour from hot pink nerines and bright yellow craspedia, put together in a modern aysmetrical style with little or no foliage and extra quirky touches from crocosmia seedheads and grasses. And the buttonholes were garden gathered style - small bunches to compliment the bouquets with a dahlia bud as the focal flower.

Here’s what Anna and Tom said about their wedding flowers at Pelham House in Lewes.

The flowers were INCREDIBLE!! So many comments about how beautiful and unusual they were. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
